According to a statement, on Sunday, Bangladeshi farmers who crossed the border to graze their cattle in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal allegedly attacked two BSF jawans and stole their weapons.
As per the statement, the incident took place in the Ranitala police station area near the Nirmalchar border outpost, where two personnel from the 35th battalion of the BSF were on patrol. They noticed a group of Bangladeshi farmers crossing the border to graze their cattle on Indian farmland, so they stopped them. However, the situation escalated when hundreds of people from Bangladesh also entered India and attacked the jawans using sticks and ‘dah’, a farming tool with a sharp edge, according to the BSF.
The statement further mentioned that the Bangladeshi attackers snatched the firearms of the two injured jawans and fled the scene. The security personnel present in the area were informed about the incident, and they rushed the injured jawans to the nearest hospital for medical attention. The BSF also informed the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) about the attack and requested a flag meeting to recover the stolen firearms and prevent such incidents in the future.
A complaint has been lodged at the Ranitala police station by the BSF. The statement added that Indian farmers have been facing issues related to theft and damage of their crops by Bangladeshi farmers.
