The Indian Army has initiated a pilot project in collaboration with NTPC for the installation of a micro grid power plant based on green hydrogen in the forward areas along the northern borders. The project is being implemented in areas that are not connected by national or state power grids, and the outcome of this initiative will determine a similar plan for the eastern borders of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. This move comes in the wake of the border tensions with China in eastern Ladakh. The project is being implemented in areas that lack connections to the national or state power grids.
On Tuesday, the Indian Army announced that it has entered into an agreement with the National Thermal Power Corporation Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) to execute the project.
This move is aligned with the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which was approved by India on January 4, with an allocation of ā‚¹19,744 crore for establishing a green hydrogen production capacity of five million tonnes per year by 2030. The Army stated that the initiative involves the installation of a green hydrogen-based microgrid power plant project in the forward areas along the Northern borders that are not linked to national or state grids.
“With this MoU, the Indian Army has become the first government organisation to enter into an agreement with National Thermal Power Corporation Renewable Energy Limited with firm plans to roll out similar projects in the future,” the Army said.
