India’s Foreign Secretary, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, recently concluded a two-day visit to Myanmar, focusing on discussions related to border management and security. The visit took place against the backdrop of escalating violence between ethnic armed organizations and the Myanmar army, which could potentially affect India’s northeastern border regions.
During the visit, bilateral cooperation projects, support for democratic transition in Myanmar, and other important issues were also addressed. India shares a 1,643-kilometer border with Myanmar, extending from Arunachal Pradesh to Mizoram, encompassing the India-Myanmar-China and India-Myanmar-Bangladesh trijunctions.
The military junta seized power in Myanmar through a coup in February last year, disrupting the country’s limited democratic progress.
