The Supreme Court in a hearing regarding the ongoing violence in Manipur, praised Advocate Nizam Pasha for his suggestions to address the crisis, on Tuesday. Advocate Nizam Pasha, representing the Zomi Students Federation of India, submitted 13 recommendations to the Supreme Court.
The suggestions encompassed various measures that were reflected in the Zomi statement, such as appointing an officer to assist families in identifying bodies at mortuaries, resolving shortages of doctors and vital medical equipment in hill district hospitals, organising alternative arrangements for medical students to attend classes outside the state, restoring cellular services, security measures and providing a status report on stolen and recovered arms, among other proposals.
Previously, the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, had called for constructive suggestions from the petitioners while affirming that the Court cannot assume control over law and order. Advocate Pasha’s inputs were highly commended by the bench, with the CJI acknowledging the fairness, conciseness, and absence of innuendos in his recommendations.
