The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the construction of a new railway line between Nagaland and Manipur, in a significant step towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of infrastructural development in the region.

Falling under the jurisdiction of the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) zone, the project has been granted a fund of Rs 20,60,64,648 for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The proposed new line, spanning 140 km from Zubza to Imphal, aims to establish direct connectivity between the two northeastern states, leading to enhanced railway traffic mobility and substantial socio-economic benefits.

The new Zubza-Imphal railway project holds the promise of transforming transportation dynamics in the region, reducing travel costs and distances for the movement of materials. This, in turn, is expected to provide a significant boost to the socio-economic growth of nearby districts. By facilitating seamless goods movement, businesses using freight services are set to benefit from substantial cost reductions. The railway line will be built between Zubza in Nagaland and Imphal in Manipur, connecting these states and contributing to overall economic growth.

In an official statement, the railways expressed, “Sanction of the Ministry of Railways is hereby communicated for conducting Final Location Survey for a new line from Zubza (Nagaland) to Imphal (Manipur).”
