Chief Minister N. Biren Singh held a high-level meeting with officials from the Border Roads Organization (BRO) to discuss the initiation of a significant border fencing project spanning 70 kilometers along the Indo-Myanmar border.

Accompanied by the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP), and Home Department officials, the meeting emphasised the critical need to fortify the porous border in response to escalating issues of illegal immigration and drug smuggling from the neighboring country.

The Indo-Myanmar border has witnessed various security-related issues in recent times, including incidents of illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and other transnational crimes. The proposed project, which involves the construction of an additional 70 kilometers of border fencing, aims to align with the state government’s commitment to safeguarding its borders.

Taking to Platform X on Monday, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh tweeted, “Held a meeting with the officials of BRO and deliberated the plan to begin construction of an additional 70 km of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border. I was joined by Chief Secretary, DGP & officials from the Home Department.”

In view of the rise in illegal immigration and drug smuggling from the neighboring country, safeguarding our porous borders has become an urgent necessity.
