The chief minister, who chaired a cabinet meeting at the Conference Hall of the Ukhrul Mini-Secretariat, reviewed ongoing development works in the region and emphasized the importance of non-political development initiatives.

In a tweet, Singh expressed his commitment to the progress and prosperity of Ukhrul, “I’m glad to be back in Ukhrul to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple projects that will bring progress and development to our beautiful region. There should be no politics in development.” He also laid the foundation stones for various new projects in both Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, with projects worth Rs. 23.30 crore set for inauguration and projects worth Rs. 50 crore for foundation stone laying.

During a public function at the Ukhrul Mini Secretariat Complex, Chief Minister Singh declared his intention to transform Ukhrul into a summer city, prioritising its development. He acknowledged various challenges, including land issues and a growing population in Ukhrul town, and discussed the idea of establishing a new township near Sirarokhong village. Stressing the importance of Ukhrul in the context of the broader vision for Northeast India, he assured the construction of a dam at Shirui to address water scarcity issues at a cost of Rs. 180ā€“200 crore.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Singh highlighted the completion of the ongoing expansion and improvement of the Imphal-Ukhrul road as a second priority for the Ukhrul district. He also addressed the issue of mobile internet services, stating that the ban would be lifted within “four to five days,” providing relief to the residents who have faced hardships due to the restriction.

Additionally, the chief minister sanctioned the construction of a cold storage in the district. The cabinet meeting also approved the establishment of a police station at Tolloi village and an SDC office at Paoyi village.
