Khohantum (23), a Myanmar national hailing from Thanan village, met an untimely end on Thursday morning at Imphal’s JNIMS hospital. The individual had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was brought to Imphal by the 8th Assam Rifles and Kamjong Police for urgent medical treatment.
According to sources, the situation took a chaotic turn as word spread about the admission of Khohantum, allegedly categorised as a Kuki-Zo patient. The commotion resulted in the unfortunate demise of the Myanmarese patient. The incident unfolded around 8:30 am in the Imphal East District.
Despite the combined efforts of Imphal East District Police and Central Forces deployed at the hospital, a sizable crowd had gathered at the premises.
Reports suggest the controversy surrounding the admission of the Myanmar national appears to have fueled tensions, leading to the escalation of the situation. The tragedy surrounding Khohantum’s demise and developments are currently underĀ investigation.
