Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, holding the portfolios of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways as well as AYUSH, Government of India and former Chief Minister of Assam, marked a significant stride in the transportation sector with the inauguration and launch of projects worth over ₹308 crore, on Wednesday. The projects, aimed at developing waterways infrastructure, were unveiled at Pandu Port in Guwahati.
The newly inaugurated projects include infrastructural additions at Bogibeel in Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Jogighopa, and Sonamura in Tripura. These developments are poised to bolster the capacity and facilitate improved trade along National Waterways 2 (Brahmaputra) and National Waterway 16 (Barak), thus aligning with the vision of a #ViksitBharat led by waterways.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries including the Hon’ble Ministers of Government of Assam, Shri Keshab Mahanta and Shri Parimal Suklabaidya, Member of Parliament Smt. Queen Oja, and MLA Shri S.B. Bhattacharya. This collective effort underscores the commitment towards advancing infrastructure and fostering economic growth in the region.
