In response to the persistent law and order challenges in Churachandpur district, the Manipur government has announced an extension of the suspension of internet services, including mobile data, until March 2. This decision, outlined in a Home Department order issued on Sunday evening, comes after a thorough review of the situation in the district.

Initially implemented on February 16 for a duration of five days, the suspension was deemed necessary following an incident where a mob breached the district office complexes of the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner.

The latest directive emphasizes the continuation of the suspension across the entirety of Churachandpur district’s revenue jurisdiction. Mobile service providers have been instructed to adhere strictly to the government’s order.

Authorities cite the need to maintain public safety and restore order as the primary reasons behind the prolonged internet blackout. The measure aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and curb any potential escalation of unrest.
