Keyi Panyor officially became the 26th district of Lower Subansiri, Arunachal Pradesh, fulfilling a longstanding aspiration of the Nyishi community. Situated at Ter Gapin-Sam Sarth, the new district holds promise for significant agricultural and horticultural development, as highlighted by Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

In his address, Chief Minister Khandu hailed the establishment of Keyi Panyor district as the dawn of a new era marked by development and progress. He emphasised the importance of combating corruption, urging community and religious leaders to advocate against the detrimental practice of ‘cash for vote’ during elections, ensuring a corruption-free environment conducive to the district’s prosperity.

Assuring proactive measures to address infrastructural needs, Chief Minister Khandu handed over the district flag to the newly appointed deputy commissioner and superintendent of police. The inaugural ceremony witnessed esteemed dignitaries including Union Minister for Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju, Deputy CM Chowna Mein, and MPs Tapir Gao and Nabam Rebia among others.

The establishment of Keyi Panyor district was facilitated by the recent passage of the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-Organization of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the state assembly on February 8. As the Nyishi community rejoices in this achievement, anticipation mounts for the imminent inauguration of the 27th district, Bichom, scheduled early next week.

Chief Minister Khandu stated, “Today marks a new beginning in Keyi Panyor district. Let’s embrace change and break the chains of old norms! One must resolve to vote based on one’s performance, and not on money, clan, or religious ties. I urge all religious institutions to actively promote awareness. We can’t expect true leadership if we perpetuate a culture of money. Let’s make a promise for a brighter and fairer future for all.”
