The Chinese military has responded to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks about the military standoff in eastern Ladakh by stating that the current situation along the India-China border is “generally stable.” They emphasized the importance of effective communication between both sides to address the standoff, and acknowledged that both nations have engaged in constructive conversations through diplomatic and military channels. PM Modi also expressed his optimism about restoring peace and tranquillity at the borders through positive and constructive bilateral engagements. Despite holding several talks, substantial progress towards resolution has not been made, and India continues to press for disengagement from certain areas.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed optimism about restoring peace at the borders through constructive bilateral engagements. Chinese Ambassador to India, Sun Weidong, acknowledged the importance of dialogue, stating that both nations have engaged in constructive conversations leading to positive progress. Both sides have agreed to reach a mutually acceptable solution swiftly. The stability of India-China relations is crucial not only for the two countries but also for the wider region and the world. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that stable China-India relations are beneficial for both countries and contribute to regional and global peace and development. The Ladakh standoff has led to a freeze in bilateral ties.

The Chinese military has stated that despite holding 21 rounds of corps commanders-level talks, substantial progress has been made towards resolving the disengagement from four points, including the Galwan Valley, Pangong Lake, Hot Springs, and Jianan Daban (Gogra). However, India has been pushing for disengagement from the Depsang and Demchok areas, stating that normalcy in relations cannot be restored until border tensions are addressed.
