The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) has revealed that Arunachal Pradesh has recorded over 95% enrollment of children in schools in the age group of 6-14 years in the past 15 years. Despite school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, enrollment in the northeastern state increased from 97.2% in 2018 to 98.4% in 2022. The report also found that almost all (98.4%) students in the age bracket of 6-14 years are now enrolled in schools across the country. The survey, which is led by the Pratham Foundation and last conducted at this scale in 2018, assessed the learning outcomes in schools post-pandemic for seven lakh candidates from 19,060 schools in 616 districts across the country. In Arunachal Pradesh, the survey covered 376 villages, 5,320 households, and 9,148 children in the age group 3 to 16 in 13 districts.
The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) is a well-regarded survey that provides insights on levels of foundational learning at the elementary level in India. It offers direction for improving education standards through collaboration between government, corporations, civil society, and NGOs.
The report released high enrollment of children in schools, which is a positive indicator for government programs like Nipun Bharat Mission. Additionally, the report shows a rise in the number of girl children in schools, which is a positive indication of the effectiveness of government initiatives such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao. The survey assessed the schooling status of children aged 3-16 and tested basic reading and arithmetic skills, as well as English ability, for children aged 5-16. The focus of ASER-2022 was on foundational skills of children in the elementary school-going age group and has been conducted annually from 2005 to 2014 and in 2016 and 2018 with comparable tools, sampling strategies and survey methods over time.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the percentage of children aged 6-14 enrolled in government schools increased to 62.2% in 2022 compared to 60.1% in 2018.
